March is MS Awareness Month. Modern Day MS is bringing awareness to what multiple sclerosis really looks like by introducing you to a real person living with MS each day of the month.
Meet Dean. I met Dean on Twitter. He is a passionate advocate for multiple sclerosis and runs marathons and competes in triathlons! An inspiration is an understatement to describe Dean.
How many years have you lived with MS?
“Just over 2 years.”
What medication and/or natural treatments do you use?
“At the moment I use iron, vitamin D and a multi-vitamin. The one thing that has been a game changer for fighting my MS fatigue has been six vitamin shots. They have given me my life back.”
How has MS made you stronger?
“Prior to my diagnosis I’d never done any real sport or exercise. Two years in and I’ve done two full marathons, a half marathon, a triathlon, 3 x 10k races, a race called the Mighty Deerstalker and I am now currently training for the London Marathon. Having MS has given my life a greater purpose.”
“I feel I am in a great position to help spread the word about MS and I intend on doing that to the best of my ability.”
What do you think is the future of the MS?
“I don’t like to guess or hope for a cure as that is something that is out of my own control. What I hope for is a greater knowledge of how the condition impacts people’s lives and hopefully people living with MS will get the support they need.”
What quote inspires you?
“I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”
Please share Deans’s story to teach others that MS does not look a specific way. You might interact with people silently suffering every day. We would love to share your real MS story in March for MS Awareness Month Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
